I think I'm going to be in trouble. About two weeks ago, I mentioned to Carol Schoner, the Treasurer of Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home, that I was thinking of writing about her in my President's Letter, and she promptly told me that she would prefer that I not so honor her. I "sort-of" assured her that I would abide by her wishes, but after thinking about it and talking to people who know and admire her long devotion to BGMH, I experienced an "uncontrollable urge" to write this article.
Carol was there are the meeting of the Catholics for Life fifteen years ago when the idea of establishing the Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home was suggested by Bishop Francis Quinn. Carol immediately got involved, as she mentioned, by "cleaning, scrubbing and painting". Later she was elected to the Board of Directors and has served as our Treasurer since May, 2002.
Lenore Mullarkey, our Executive Director, says that "Carol is so talented and organized that we would be lost without her. She's always been there when needed, not only for financial matters, but also for painting or deep cleaning a room. She's always there for the garage sales, and has taken over for me (Lenore) in running the annual open house".
Carol is still our Treasurer, and, yes, she is still "cleaning, scrubbing and painting".
I should apologize to Carol for breaking my word and writing this article, but I will not apologize, because, really, Carol, it's your own fault - for being so wonderful.
