From the Director

Dear Friends of BGMH,

I cannot believe we are getting ready for our Annual Dinner. Last year was so very special for me. Having my family there was one of the high points of my life. The women and their babies have become my family and BGMH is their family. I was trying to pick one story of a resident to share with you in the newsletter. I decided to give you a summary of a few. Do you remember Megan's story in April of 2007? She is still in touch with us. She will graduate from college in June of 2009 and hopes to become a Dental Assistant. She will have to take some state exams. Her son Luis was born on the Feast of the Holy Innocents in 2006. He is now 19 months old.

This week was another red-letter day for me. I took the van and my car full of women and four babies to the 8:00 A.M. Mass during the week. The babies did not make a sound! God is so good to us! In addition, I came across a thank you written by one of our residents in 1994. Here it is with an update.

My name is Nancy. I moved in Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home on 11-5-94. My daughter Felicia was born on 11-16-94, healthy and beautiful. I am 29 years old. Felicia is my seventh child. For years, I was heavy into drugs and could not seem to find my way out. At 7 months pregnant, I entered a drug program for recovery. Then in late October, I found BGMH. It took some time to make the decision to break away from all I would know for so long and move here. However, as soon as I did, things just started to come together for me. I am working on getting my other children back and staying clean and sober.

If it were not for people like you and BGMH, I would not have had a prayer. So for this, Felicia and I thank you. Nancy.

Felicia will be 14 in November. Nancy is still 29, and has her own day care center. She had all of her children returned in April of 1995. Nancy and the girls come to shop at the yard sale every year.
